The RAMPS 1.4 shield (RepRap Arduino Mega Pololu Shield) is an expansion board for the Arduino Mega that consolidates the electronics required to control a RepRap-style 3D printer. It supports up to five stepper motor drivers and manages axes, extruder, heated bed, and cooling fans.

  • Compatible with Arduino Mega 2560 and RAMPS 1.4.
  • Sockets for 5 stepper motor drivers (DIP-18 format, e.g., A4988, DRV8825).
  • 3 MOSFETs for heater/fan outputs and 3 thermistor circuits.
  • 5A PTC fuse for logic, drivers, and D9/D10 outputs (max 30V rating).

Voltage and current notes

This board was designed for 12V systems. While it can run at 24V with caution, exceeding 15V on a standard setup is not recommended, especially with lower-spec components.

For a printer with a heated bed, use a power supply capable of delivering 12V at more than 16A (20A+ is preferred).
